Stay In A Cabin On The Shores of Loch Rusky
An Overnight Adventure
If you are looking for a Scottish escape to recharge the batteries without having to travel hours up into the highlands, then these little cabins on the banks of Perthshire’s Loch Rusky may well be for you. Only an hour from Glasgow set in the hills of The Trossachs National Park, the cabins feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Difficulty:
As adventures go this is an easy one. Although the cabins are small and relatively basic, this is what gives them their charm and everything about them has been designed with comfort and recharge in mind.
This is an adventure for those wanting to feel connected to nature whilst remaining comfortable at all times.
Time:
The adventure here lasts for as long as your stay, with every moment feeling like an escape. From 1 day to 7, these cabins are adventure ready.
The Adventure:
The drama of the Trossachs park happens quite quickly, it sneaks up and announces itself as the motorway turns to country lanes before the vast landscape surrounding Loch Rusky takes over. I suppose this is testament to its convenience and proximity to ‘the real world’. The real world however, it is not.
From the moment we stepped out of the car the excitement of our new environment took effect as we looked round our new home for the night. We were in the ‘Here’ cabin, one of two beautifully presented pods nestled into the Gorse on the banks of Loch Rusky. But this wasn’t your usual pop up pod. It wasn’t a basic, cramped or off the cuff Covid staycation business, it was a carefully considered, tastefully designed and surprisingly spacious cabin.
A really smart piece of space design, with a bedroom come kitchen come living area as the main room leading through to a bathroom. The kitchen was kitted out with everything you might need and the bed boasted a level of comfort that made even sitting on it dangerous, as Charlie experienced early doors with an involuntary nap.
But the real stand out feature was the view from the pod, as the doors opened up onto a private deck (complete with table and chairs, a BBQ and fire pit) which then led to the loch itself. It is this proximity to the water that really makes the pod feel special, being able to look out over the water from bed gives the adventure a real sense of calm.
We only stayed for 24 hours due to other commitments so we kept our exploration of the area to a relative minimum. Sticking to our immediate surroundings we walked through the gorgeous gorse, along the banks of the loch and climbing a cleverly thought out ‘look out’ tower built for guests to take in the surrounding landscape from a height whilst also being shielded form the elements.
Our stay in the cabin was short but very sweet, we left the following morning rested and happy. Just what the doctor ordered.
Pointers:
Each cabin has its own powerful, easy to use barbecue, that is certainly the way to do dinner in the evenings. Either sat out under the stars or on your porch, weather permitting. In terms of supplies/ingredients there is a fantastic local farm shop about a 10 minute drive away.
In Conclusion:
Adventure doesn’t always have to mean a mad mission to the top of a mountain that pushes you to your limits. Sometimes it is just doing something a little different, taking yourself out of your ordinary environment and connecting with nature… And the Loch Rusky Cabins are a great example of that. A little more expensive than our normal adventures, but you get what you pay for.
Gorgeous landscape plus carefully considered cabins equals a great experience.
